COLOMBO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) — Two buses collided along the Colombo-Kandy main road on Friday morning, injuring about 18 passengers, the police said in a statement.
Around 18 people were admitted to the Kegalle and Mawanella hospitals, two main hospitals in the area, the police said.
Police suspect that the accident was caused by a technical fault in one bus, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The investigation into the incident was underway.
Motor vehicle accidents are common in Sri Lanka. In 2023, there were 2,557 deaths resulting from 2,200 fatal traffic accidents. ■
